1.0 out of 5 stars Does not work with my Mac, January 12, 2011
This review is from: SteelSeries 3GC Dual Vibration PC Gaming Controller (Personal Computers)
First off, I purchased this controller from my local game store, not from Amazon.

I'm decided to write a review here to serve as a warning beacon to any Mac users considering this item, but once I found the product page I felt a little better seeing that it already has a one star rating.

The packaging clearly states that it is "fully programmable", "plug & play", and "Mac OSX compatible". Guess what? I plugged it into my (Intel) Mac and was never able to play. The Mac never recognized the hardware. Two different, third-party programs (Gamepad Companion & USB Overdrive) both failed to recognized the hardware.

I think Steelseries has a different definition of Plug & Play than the rest of us.

The Steelseries website offers little support, especially for Mac users, and even goes so far as to state the lack of "advanced driver support" for Macs.

This controller might work just fine on a Window$ machine, but I don't know, I... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars It works for you if you work with it., April 10, 2011
This review is from: SteelSeries 3GC Dual Vibration PC Gaming Controller (Personal Computers)
I bought this controller at a local store, but I thought I should write a review and explain why people have issues with this product.

It is not plug and play in OSX, and there are no drivers from the manufacturer's website. You need to have ControllerMate ($15). It maps everything with a little work, and it can run in the background while you're playing. You can control every aspect of the controller except the turbo button in the middle, but this still does not make up for the intrinsic qualities of the controller.

The buttons work fine, and the D-Pad is just okay. The joysticks work, but they are very sensitive and it is difficult to control their activity when you map them to a mouse axis. The WASD mapping works fine because sensitivity is not an issue with keystrokes, but if you are mapping to mouse actions you may find it hard to aim in FPS games.

You can make it work, but I don't think you can change the sensitivity of the controller... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage, February 25, 2011
This review is from: SteelSeries 3GC Dual Vibration PC Gaming Controller (Personal Computers)
What a piece of junk. I wish I'd checked Amazon before I bought this at a local Gamestop. The drivers are terrible and don't add any functionality and sensitivity adjustment to the joysticks. So essentially they are either full-on or full-off. They joysticks themselves stopped working properly after a few days, sending control messages that made absolutely no sense. Waste of money.
